About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Surviving the outside world

ABOUT ME

Rather reserved, but can let loose if given the right atmosphere. Dedicated to creating something artistic, rather than creating money.

I have just finished my degree in Film and Media Studies at the University of Victoria Wellington. That was a good three years worth of finding a passion in life, that being film. At the moment I am currently putting most of my creative energy into film-related activities, mainly writing druring my travels.

To further explain my personality, and my almost permanent existence on the fringe I am currently travelling with a guitar, and a typewriter. Yes a typewriter. Usually that impresses people...

PHILOSOPHY

Maybe in some quotes: "Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards." And of course "one missed photographic opportunity results in the purchase of two more pieces of equipment."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I havn't been able to let others surf, but I have had surfers before I joined CS. I am currently spreading my joy and knowledge to those who let me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed a couch in Toronto, Amsterdam (3), Reykjavik, Paris (2), Barcelona (3) and Valencia . Also attended CS party/meetings in Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Valencia, and Granada. Love the communities! Always warm and welcoming. Will endeavour to host whenver I can, especially when back in New Zealand.

Interests

Film, books, art, music and all things that a Bachelor of Arts graduate could want to feel fulfilled. Mainly film and music though. I play the guitar and banjo, have learned the saxophone and piano. I should really get back to those. Also have a desire to learn the accordion after seeing the Argentine tango groups playing in the San Telmo markets, Buenos Aires.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - really difficult to choose but a few come to mind; Once Upon a Time in the West, The Life Aquatic, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Fight Club, Howl's Moving Castle, V for Vendetta, Monty Python, Daytime Drinking, Oldboy, Drive. Basically a random mix of just good films.

Music- Pretty heavy into my bluegrass/folk stuff at the moment, but still enjoy my old school rock and modern rock. Some hip hop can be catchy, but not a fan of anything pop based. Favorite bands range from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors to Beirut, and Old Crow Medicine Show.

Books- I try to read as much as possible but have a little trouble fitting it into my schedule. Big fan of smart sci-fi, such as The Dispossessed. Recent books read are Confederacy of Dunces and Shogun.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Festival of Santo Domingo in Granada, Nicaragua. Pretty much running with the bulls, but less bulls and no guard rails. There is a horde of cowboys who are meant to catch angry bulls as they tear down the streets and into the crowds. A couple of people died. I saw one man get tossed into the air like a rag-doll. It was pretty crazy.

Teach, Learn, Share

Travelling with a guitar means I can share some of my musical knowledge. I can also explain the philosophical benefits of the typewriter either verbally or in writing.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Fiji, France, Germany, Iceland, Netherlands, Peru, Singapore, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Zimbabwe

Countries I’ve Lived In

Iceland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa
