About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the world smaller one relationship at a time.

ABOUT ME

I grew up on a farm. To me, neighbours are what make the world go around. Wanderlust came to me early. In third grade my parents bought an old motor home and we drove it from Canada to Mexico along the West Coast, stopping from time to time at various things (Hoover Dam, the Spruce Goose, Queen Marry, Disneyland, etc) From Jr. High school on I played the tuba in a marching band that toured in the summer. I also had pen pals world wide as a kid - that could account for my wanderlust. My grandma also made it impossible for us not to be interested. She always took us on road trips with ABBA cranked.

I love life and people. I want to make the world a better place. The more I learn, the more I think that changing the world happens one encounter at a time.

I love swimming and hope to be certified as a scuba diver one day. Lately I've taken up sketching because I'm terrible at it and I like challenging myself. I love reading, movies, great conversation, public bath houses, silliness, and epicure.

I keep making new dreams for myself lately, too. I hope to one day win an olympic medal and play in an orchestra. Wish me luck!

PHILOSOPHY

Life is too short! Why expect yourself to work first and enjoy it later.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just love meeting new people. I think this is an excellent way to offer hospitality safely. I hope to get more and more involved as I'm on longer and longer.
I've hosted surfers, and gone to events. I hope to surf soon in Beijing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've always enjoyed sleepovers. As a girl, I slept over at my cousin's house the entire summer and we had such a blast. I have a hosting heart and want to help people feel welcome in whatever patch of earth we call home. Right now, I am hosting more than traveling.

Interests

I am interested in almost everything that has a genuine quality to it. I don't like things that are contrived or things that try to be something their not. I am interested in people and have learned many things by being open and listening. In particular, I like taking my time and doing a job well. I like enjoying every moment and I hate feeling like I've wasted time.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything my Margaret Atwood, Life of Pi - Yan Martel, Wicked, Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver, Harry Potter Series, Becoming Human - Jean Vanier, From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankwieler. I like anything I can learn from. I don't really like fluff novels unless they are very well done and still have a lesson (with the exception -tragically- of Twilight).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I held a brown bat on a field study in Costa Rica. On the same trip, I saw a 5 foot crocodile/cayman slip into a river that I had not choice but to cross. I was pretty sure he slipped away to avoid us rather than eat us so it wasn't that extraordinary, just a bit scary. I've also bungee jumped and seek out having experiences for their intrinsic value and nothing more.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a good chef. Countless friends who have enjoyed a meal at my house have fully inflated my ego on that point. I love to host people and cook for them. I speak fluent conversational Spanish and love practicing. It's my goal to be conversationally fluent in Korean by the time I make my exodus.
