About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Teaching Wilderness EMT courses and pursuing pre-med school.

ABOUT ME

I love hiking, cycling travel (of course) art, literature, meeting cool inspirig people etc.

I have a degree in drawing and painting which doesn't get as much use as it should. I used to work as a graphic designer until I realized how awful it is to sit behind a computer all day long so I had a knee jerk reaction and took a seasonal job in Antarctica for 2 years. In the off season I lived as a gypsy in New Zealand and Australia and now I'm trying to reintegrate into society as an EMT. This fall I am going back to school for pre-med and with luck in about a million years I'll be a doctor.

I love reading and writing and have been a volunteer ESL tutor in the past. I used to volunteer as a Mountain Rescuer (search and rescue) in Boulder Colorado, USA for about 4 years before I moved to Seattle and now I volunteer with the Red Cross and I teach EMT courses in Haiti.

I really just want to pack my life full of good experiences. My biggest fear in life is falling into a dull routine and becoming complacent. I need to do big things to shake up my world every now and then. I try not too stress out too much over material things and wealth even though I'm often stressed by work, and I end up doing whatever I can get to pay the bills. I'm passionate about humanitarian volunteering, teaching and helping people in general. I'm a very restless soul and I find it hard to tie myself down for too long. As soon as I plant myself somewhere I start scheming and wondering where I can get to next.

I seem to be working a lot these days and my hours are irregular. I would love to go adventuring with you if I have the time but I can't guarantee it. I can always give you helpful tips though and I'll try to make your stay as pleasant as possible anyway.

PHILOSOPHY

I can't decide if life is long or short so I treat it as if it were both. I seize every opportunity I can as if life were going to end tomorrow but I try not to stress out if I miss something because there is no such thing as "once in a lifetime." Good things happen everyday and there is really no reason to worry about anything. If you just keep a positive attitude good things will always happen to you.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like Quentin Tarentino movies and other such films. Foreign flicks are great too. I'm a big fan of Indie Rock and Brit Pop and KEXP.org (one of the reasons I now live in Seattle). I'm all over the map for books. Sometimes I'm a philosophical mood, sometimes I binge on mountaineering books, other times I'm into classics; Dostoyevsky, Oscar Wylde, Orwell, Rushdie, Steinbeck etc. Right now I'm on a mission to read all of Gabriel Garcia-Marquez's novels which is a huge undertaking but fun none the less. I'm also a National Geographic junkie.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've worked in Antarctica. Lived as a beach-bum gypsy in New Zealand for 5 months and climbed giant mountains in Colorado as a Mountain Rescuer. I worked in Australia trapping and tagging Tasmanian Devils and now I get to work as an EMT and am going to teach an EMT course in Haiti. I think I'm very fortunate to have realized that there are so many wonderful things to do and people to meet in the world.
