About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Study hard here in Cambridge - in anticipation of a long summer of fun and love...

ABOUT ME

I believe I'm kind of a hybrid trying to avoid the categories and boxes that are constantly being dragged over my head. Any way, that's my self conception - maybe you can easily fit me into one? Try, I am curious about it... I'm not explicitly identifying with any well defined -ism or lifestyle but I pull on a bit of everything, often according to the situations I find myself in. I'm analytically minded, shaped by spending my entire life studying, and yet ultimately relying on my emotions and gut feeling when navigating life. My understanding of this world is induced by relativism, but still you will find me arguing about what is right and wrong or good and bad. I just don't rely on universal truths, but try to create a sensitivity to the specific context and realize the limits and subjectivity of my own standpoints. I am quite an individualist but try to live out my individualism in a social responsible way. Well, wont say no more, you'd better come and meet me, I wont spoil it all in advance ;)

PHILOSOPHY

One word that describes my personal philosophy is "honesty". Honesty towards myself, friends and the people I meet. Honesty to me, is aiming to get to the critical core of a relationship or a situation - without the fear of the realities I have to face and without the fear of putting myself out there. It's not easy, and indeed not always pleasant, but being honest carries a value in itself for me, and over and over again, I feel that I build strong, rewarding and meaningful relationships to people, by challenging them and myself, and by insisting on touching the issues that we would otherwise tend to leave unspoken. Being honest often leaves me vulnerable, and takes lots confidence and trust. But again and again I realize, that by being honest, I can actually turn weakness into strength and shame into virtues. By effectively overcoming taboos and lies, I free my mental energies to struggle with still bigger issues and to keep challenge myself and the world around me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are opening our home, and invite people to come and stay, and be part of our daily life in our coop in Copenhagen. We wont be giving guided tours around the city, but are just inviting you to take part of our life, play along, eat with us, join whatever parties we are going to, and so forth.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've met interesting, fun, weird, good, thoughtful and wacky people though CS. Its been such a pleasure.

Interests

One of my big passions is organizational theory - that's what I'm studying - and the question of how we can create organizations to make the world better and allow us to prosper as individuals, communities and societies. I'm interested in how to create the social infrastructure that amplify our visions of a good life. The CS project is the perfect example of such infrastructure, and great inspiration of mine. I make my contribution to this world by pushing for organizational change where ever I come: Personally I create coops so we can live together in meaningful ways, professionally I facilitation co-working to allow people to live their professional life on an independent way, academically I study new ways of designing organizations that allow us to reinvent our sphere of production and our societies as such, bottom-up. I recently wrote an article on CouchSurfing, you can download it here if you are interested: http://tinyurl.com/2wbe4n2 Besides this overall passion in organizational theory, I love all kinds of IT and tech stuff, participatory performance art, I run marathons, and enjoy the sun as often as I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

Its hard to pin it down, mostly because I'm just a happy idiot enjoying what comes my way, without ever caring to look into who the director or actors of my favorite movies are, or who this specific band actually it. My taste of music is eclectic, reflecting the people that have passed through my life. However, here is a few movies I recently watched and really liked: Lives of the Others, A Clockwork Orange, Amelie, Magnolia, Naked Lunch, Rocky Horror Picture Show... And music I'm listening to these days: Entheogenic, Nikolaj Nørlund, Thomas Dybdahl, The Moldy Peaches, CoCoRosie, Kings of Convenience. Cant tell you much about the bands themselves, but lots about the people that introduced me to them. The last 20 books I read, was related to my thesis - you don't even wanna know about it :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One thing comes to mind very fast - Burning Man. If you have been there, you know, if not, it will take me a little while to try and explain... You'll find me there again this year :)
