ABOUT ME

I was incredibly lucky to get hired (via Skype while walking the Camino de Santiago!) to teach French and English to wonderful high school students in the Indianapolis area.

Before that, I spent the last few years getting a master's degree, traveling, working/living in France from time to time, and perfecting my recipe for egg salad. I'm pretty tied to my job right now, but looking forward to those famous summers "off" and for the time being I'm trying to make the most of my weekends.

I'm friendly, a good cook, and interested in just about everything. I'm also very outdoorsy - I love hiking, running, backpacking, and playing in the dirt. When possible, I try to say yes to new opportunities. I'm not always impulsive by nature but most of the best things I've done have happened somewhat accidentally.

PHILOSOPHY

Very much entering a new phase. More responsibility, more roots, but the same need for the new. I read recently that children perceive time as being longer because so much of what they experience is new. Thus, as an adult, your life seems longer if you keep trying new things. I want to live a long time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I seem to go through phases of using couchsurfing, and then forgetting I have it, so if you don't get a response right away, please don't think I'm ignoring you! I've had some great experiences using this site, and am hoping to meet some great people now that I'm moving.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've done a little couchsurfing, used it to meet people, but have never hosted yet. I'm hoping to live somewhere conducive to hosting soon!

Interests

cooking and baking, reading, research involving super old books, travel (armchair and otherwise), getting a move on, silly dancing, the nineteenth century, pastries, gardening, sewing, crafting, hiking, camping, planning lessons, convincing other people to grade papers for me, running, doing awesome things by accident, listening to the radio, shoes, Goodwill, secular humanism and so much more!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: honestly, most of it appeals to me. In the car I'll switch between NPR, the hip-hop/r&b station, pop, oldies, country, you name it. My itunes says I like Bjork, the White Stripes, the Dirty Projectors, Beyonce, of Montreal, etc. I have a lot of love for Motown.

Movies: documentaries mostly; for some reason movies and I don't get along very well.

Books: too difficult! My fiction interests seem to lean heavily 19th century, but I'm a much more frequent reader of non-fiction these days. I've got a Goodreads account that taunts me; come summer, it's book time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Over the course of the summer, I went from having no idea what I was doing with my life to having a great job, a great place to live, several fabulous adventures, and a new person to care about, and a lot of it fell in to place while I was on the Camino. I'd be lucky to have any one of those things.
