HOSTING TRAVELERS in MY APARTMENT in BERN
BEST TIME to HOST are WEEKDAYS, from Friday after 5pm till Monday 8am morning, before going to work.
I can also host you during the WEEK, but in this case I will ask you to leave the apartment at 8am when I go to work, as I have only one apartment key, and can't borrow it!
If you will stay at my place any day between Sunday to Thursday, you will be kindly asked to come back to my place at 10pm latest, as I usually go to sleep at around 11pm.
I prefer to host experienced Couchsurfers, and those who will write their personal request. If you are foodie and willing to cook something with me, more than welcome to write me a request.
I don't smoke and I don't want anyone to smoke in my flat.
CURRENT MISSION
There are no foreign lands, it is the traveler only who is foreign! Be the type of person you want to meet!
ABOUT ME
My name is Marko, I used to be from Slovenia but now I am from the world! I live in Bern (Switzerland) where I work for the USA pharma company.
I am an enthusiastic traveller - besides that, I am also a professional tourist guide with official licence and more than 10 years of experience. I like to help people and have hosted travellers from all around the world.
I would like to see as much of the world and different cultures as possible! Through the trip, I want to understand the history and culture of the city and the life of people in there. Making a local friend is also on my list! Till now I have traveled to over 75 countries.
What my best friend Miha thinks of me? :)
MIHA
The chemistry of our friendship started in classrooms filled with chemistry and it's been now more than ten years since we've met. Based on empirical grounds I therefore have no doubts that if you experience Marko's couch, you'll feel a strong spark of kindness, hospitality, and honesty. Since Marko likes to talk, and talk, and talk you'll not be endangered (even for a second) by the embarrassing situations emerging from the communication breaks and silence holes. On top of that, Marko is also a tourist guide so the trips you'll make with him (if time allows them, of course) will be filled with interesting comments and details. Besides Ljubljana (Slovenia's capital), Marko sometimes arranges CS in his home town (Novo mesto). There you'll most definitively experience even greater share of hospitality, since his mother treats the guests as her own children. Oh, and I won't mention his cooking passion: just come, taste, and be surprised ... If you visit him in summer you can go swimming with him, if you come in winter skiing is the option. Lately, Marko started also with Thai Boxing - well, how he could not?!: the origin of his name is linked with the Roman god of war. But all worries aside: he is all nice and gentle. Friends often call him Mare (probably because of the linguistic tendency for reduction, or whatever). Hmm, pay attention: "mare" in Italian means "the sea". Besides the fact that he likes water, there is something deeper in it. What is the colour of the sea? Blue! My goodness! Marko is crazy about that colour (particularly it's azzurro cast to share you a detail).
PHILOSOPHY
Live and let live - life is a great adventure. We are here to learn and explore.
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
A lot of my favorite people are ones I met through CS. It's hard at this point to think what life would be like without them.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
In Ljubljana (Slovenia, Europe) I am organizing Cooking Events in our kitchen with CouchSurfers and other travelers (events will happen wherever we are - based in Ljubljana, but it will happen anywhere).

From 11th to 13th July, 2013 I was part of a CouchSurfing Documentary, filmed in Ljubljana (Slovenia), produced by ARTE France and Spiegel TV Germany.
It is the best way to come closer to local people in any place you are going. When I travel I like to stay in homestays with local people, talk to them about their life, cook with them ...

Interessen
I like to help people, if I can. When I travel I often take some toys for small children with me and bring them to smile. I also go to the market and buy food for some poor families. I feel very happy when I can help someone. Besides, you never know, when you're going to need help yourself ...
