About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to witness a glimpse of a vision
ABOUT ME
I wear many hats, both metaphorically and literally... I'm a musician of eclectic original and other tunes, sometimes all on my own, sometimes with a haphazard group, often known as the Gardes, from Oklahoma. I play in various venues as well as in the street (which usually pays better, though I'm not crazy about doing the things I love for money, to be honest, or the things I hate for money), traveling the U.S. I'm headed out to do a sort of underground music tour of the U.S. and Europa (this will be my first time over there), and I aim to be on the go for quite some time, though in the future, I'll reconstruct my castle, even if it's only inside an apartment, and world travelers will be welcome, and I'll be a gracious host and have your back.
Also, I have a few books that have just gone on sale on amazon.com, but I have a doppelganger, it seems, don't confuse me with the bicycle nut from San Francisco, no offense, I'm sure he's cool.
I'll be landing in Barcelona on July 26th, 2009, via New York, meeting some friends, and everything's up in the air. check out: myspace.com/bretthorton or: www.thegardes.com
if you have a place to play or stay, I'd love to meet you and would appreciate greatly any hospitality... I hope to go to Paris, London, Germany, Italy, Prague, Vienna, and more...
PHILOSOPHY
this is a very good question. I believe in packing the days and entertaining yourself and those around you. I live my life because I'm alive. I also believe in constantly seeking out new ways and approaches to
fix old systems that don't work, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies- documentaries, comedies, music movies, just any movie that has a unique style or interest to me. Music- I like what Ray Charles said, "There's two kinds of music, good music and bad music," but I know there's other kinds. Being a musician, I've seen my influences broaden from seeking out my influences' influences. I started playing guitar in the early nineties with the whole 'alternative' craze, when I was still a tadpole, but went back, back, to punk rock, classic, psychedelic rock, oldies, motown soul, blues, some jazz, folk, avant-garde, hip hop, old style country, classical, blending it all, I just got interested in the melting pot, and after swearing off most modern music in the late nineties, I believe there's a lot of good stuff that's come out in this decade, but I am mostly unaware of the current mainstream world (having no TV, and not even being a snobby ultraradical, but just due to circumstance and not on purpose) and am more in touch with my surrounding underground railroad. Books- I like to read until I go stir-crazy and have to put one down and go out in the world, because I am an avid reader-bookworm and a writer of type, but really, most books aren't all they're cracked up to be... ?
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
well, i don't like to brag nor do i like to talk down about myself, but everywhere I've gone I've definitely seen something amazing, even when others don't recognize it in the moment.
