About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Writing a book about hitchhiking... http://theruleofthumb.wordpress.com/

ABOUT ME

Basically, I (Steve) am 22 and Will's 20. We're two English guys from London, hitch-hiking around the world for a small charity that works with the homeless in England and Bulgaria.

We are both very sporty, friendly, Christian guys, who love to meet people and love learning new languages.

On our travels possibly our favourite pasttime is to try a little bit of every culture that we are in. We hate the idea that a tourist will go to the other side of the world and eat at MacDonalds! In fact, we both hate the idea of being tourists altogether. We prefer to think of ourselves as explorers or adventurers.

Our promise is to be perfectly polite (we're British after all) and to attempt to bless you as much as you bless us. This is the aim of our adventure.

PHILOSOPHY

We both believe that the best way to get along is this life is to try and make the best out of all situations. No matter where you are from or what you believe in, you have something to offer this world; something positive.

We believe that the meaning of life is to enjoy the beauty of God's creation and make the most out of the life that we have been given. Perhaps that is why we are such advocates of travelling the globe and experiencing the vastness of cultures and religions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We're new to this thing, but love the idea and have many friends across the world that have all recommended it highly.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far, but we are hoping for loads of great stories soon.

Interests

We are both very similar, so that makes this one easier. The main interests that we share are sport, music and religion.

Both of us love playing and watching pretty much every sport, especially football - Steve is an avid Tottenham fan, while Will despairs at Southampton's lengthy stay in the lower eschelons of the English Football Leagues.

Music is a passion of us both, but especially Will. He is an incredible guitar player and has an amazing voice. He has actually brought his tiny travel guitar with him, so you can be 100% sure to hear it, should we meet. Will also plays the drums and the piano to a good standard, while I (Steve) dabble with the guitar, drums and vocals to a slightly less impressive standard.

Religion is a major factor of our lives. We are both passionate Christians, but don't worry; we are not the sorts to go around the world and impose our beliefs upon anyone else. We simply hope to learn from the beliefs of others and to grow in our philosophies together. God works outside the bounds of Christianity.

Music, Movies, and Books

We are absolutely mad about films. Name any film and we are likely to have seen it. From Tarrantino to Goddard; Scorcese to The Coen Brothers: we love them all.

Music-wise our biggest influences vary. Will's are: James Taylor, Eric Clapton and John Mayer (he's a guitarist after all!). Mine are: Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Pearl Jam, Ben Harper and Ben Folds...

We both love all of the above artist and so many more. Music and films are so important to us both and we can talk for hours on end about them.

Books are somewhat lower down on the list, but not for want of trying. I am actually a keen writer, but still must confess to have not read very many books at all. Favourites are: The Lord of The Rings, Birdsong, The Stranger, To Kill A Mocking Bird, Nineteen Eighty Four, Jane Eyre... the list goes on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bungee jumping beside Victoria Falls; teaching English to a bunch of rehabilitating drug addicts in Kazakhstan; Hitch-hiking in twenty countries around the world (soon to be many more)... Steve.

Trecking through the Himalayas; Seeing James Taylor play in The Royal Albert Hall; this hitch-hiking business isn't bad either... Will.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sure. Love them all...
