About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am a traveler without a map. (It sounds better in Bulgarian)

ABOUT ME

I'm one of the few people I know who actually travels a bit more than I would prefer. I love traveling, don't get me wrong, but I sometimes lose track of home.

I work in international development, for a University in New York City. I am, to some degree, a professional "do-gooder", which is complicated, and I realize many are skeptical of that description. In addition to work, I like to travel for creative reasons, to see and get immersed in artistic communities, and for exploration, wonder and serenity...

PHILOSOPHY

I try to believe in and work toward "making the world a better place". But this is not easy, and I meet lots of people with very different definitions of what that means.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Although I used to host, and enjoyed it, I have now moved out of my apartment and am sharing with someone, so I can't host until further notice.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a bit experienced at this by now, and people have said nice things about me (so far! thanks for the positive reviews!). Hosting in NYC is tricky, sometimes I get 5 or 10 requests in a single day. So please, please, read my profile, and show some indication that you're interested in more than just a place to crash.

Music, Movies, and Books

One book I love on Western culture is "The Swerve" by S. Greenblatt. A book that I think helps to understand the mind and how to use it is Matthieu Ricard's "Happiness: A guide to cultivating life's most important skill" (or in french, "Plaidoyer pour le bonheur"). Both are very much worth your time!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

traveling solo through Western Tanzania to Rwanda was a bit of an adventure, as was overnight driving in Uganda. Madagascar is amazing in so many ways....

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a fair amount about some odd things: I've traveled a lot in Africa, SE Asia, and a bit elsewhere. I've done a lot of movement disciplines, for lack of a better term (martial arts, thai massage, dance, etc.....) I've worked a bit in film and video.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Canada, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Ghana, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom, United States
