About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To help promote peace through international travels and exchanges
ABOUT ME
We do not appreciate people looking for a transit hotel: in at night out the next morning. That is not the purpose of CS. Please do not contact us if you are only a fly by night traveller.
I have lived and worked in half a dozen countries in Africa since 1962 and travelled in about 22. I have also studied at the University of Edinburgh, Swarthmore College and Antioch New England. My doctorate in sociology of education at Harvard University is based on research in Uganda. I was a professor of sociology at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. I was then director of educational research and research professor in Papua New Guinea for 17 years. I was in Botswana between 1991 and 2014. I worked with a number of NGOs, both academic (BERA and Saches), did journalism for a local paper (four columns a week) and with the only women's shelter in Botswana. We returned to Vermont in 2014, and have a duplex with our last daughter. Gudrun died on 29 May 2018 of nectorizing fasciitis. Her music room is still available for travellers.
