About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Trying to read Sartre in French.
PHILOSOPHY
It's all about Transcendence:
“Freedom is never given, it is won.” ,
A. Philip Randolph
The advantage of phrases like this is that you can imagine and associate lots of things and they can stand for even a book.
The disadvantage is maybe it doesn't look precise, ok, it's not precise.
But I prefer it; because as a student of philosophy i'm surrounded with difficult books and people who like talking a lot. Therefore this is enough here. We can talk about it, when we meet; but mostly I would be even happier, if we would do something different.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Until now, not much, but i would like it to change.
I live in a flat share and my room at Vienna is very small(about 11 m2), so it's not very comfortable, but before you get acquainted with the road surface, it might be better to contact me.
We haven't a living room, but a large kitchen with a soccer table
Interests
I like to play guitar, but I haven't got much time lately. I will change that, when I come back from France.
I'm very interested in everything about France at the moment, the people, the language, the culture, the cuisine ( I'm not averse to drink wine, although I prefer beer; but I keep an open mind and I have just discovered crêpes and cidres for being tasteful, yes i'm here in the early stages. Can you show me the other things which make it worth living?) Especially - as a student of philosophy - I'm sold on French philosophy: of course the existentialism of Sartre and Beauvoir, but also the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas or the postmondern stuff like Foucault or Derrida.
I tried to get in touch with French literature (ok to tell you the truth: le petit prince and Baudelaire in German translation) and cinema (Nouvelle Vague, but I'm just at the starting point), too. I've a special interest for poetry, but it will take a long time to read it in French (i hope not a lifetime: before i will kick the bucket, i hope for an epiphany)
I like playing football with friends, or walking and drinking in the streets at night.

Music, Movies, and Books
Too many and too many I don't have any idea of and isn't it boring to list all the stuff i've listened or watched with pleasure? Who cares? But at the moment I try to get my way through the universes of art, culture and media to find something for me, my own style of perception and appreciation.
But that takes also a long time and I'm not in a hurry.
In the past I've listened to lots of Indie Rock, Ska, Punk and...world music or however it is called: Music from the Balkan or bands like Beirut
I just heard at the house of my host family in Toulouse an Italian type of music that I liked a lot; called Tarantella. More generally speaking, I like soundtracks as this music creates a good atmoshpere.
I also intend to get to know French rock music or music which is similar to bands like rue ketanou.
as for movies, there are a lot of great ones, but I was recently impressed by Old boy, furthermore Training Day, Collateral and les enfants du paradis (an old epic french movie which takes more than three hours, but its worth seeing every minute).
I'm not really a bigoted reader who takes the thickest book in the library and wasn't seen afterwards for the next ten days, in fact too big books "frighten" me, perhaps that's my reason for reading poetry and thin books. In addition to some philosophical stuff I read with pleasure and interest Hesses Steppenwolf and Georg Buechner, especially Leonce and Lena, and have a addiction to poetry from Heine, Nietzsche, Schiller or Dehmel.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm going to learn French; but can only share my interest and my joy over my progression.I can teach German of course, if anyone would like to learn.
Lots of stuff I would like to learn, but it's a long way to go, like special skills on the guitar (spanish style for example, but also others) (ok, i could teach the basics) or dancing or this kind of sports, but i don't know which one; (I tried it with martial arts, but thats tough stuff)
