About Me

AS PEOPLE TEND TO NOT READ THE HOME SECTION:
My home is not directly in Hamburg, but 40min by train outside Hamburg. It's farely easy to get to Hamburg and back, but if you would like to be based in the city center, there are better options than me.
Also: My flat does not have running warm water. So if a warm shower is essential to you, you might ask one of those other beautiful couchsurfers out there. There are plenty of them. :-)

If you would still like to stay with me, you are more than welcome. ;-)

ABOUT ME
I'd like to give back some good to a world that has been good to me. I grew up on a fruitfarm, working and playing through all my younger years. I loved Lego as a kid and still do, I can barely stop reading a book when I got into it. Seldom as it is, my parents (working for german post, but dad has retired recently) are still married happily and there is no moment in my childhood I would like to change in retrospect. So I am mostly a happy person, finding joy in simple things, such as food, nature, humor of any kind. I like to cook, but my baking is a lot better (I will be baking for you :-) ) . I like doing lots of sports, such as tai chi , jiu jitsu, volleyball, darts, swimming. I care a great deal about tending for any kind of fruit plants and gardenwork. As I am mostly happy with myself, I do not complain much about my own life, adapting to most situations easily, but I am rather critical concerning the development of our world .

CURRENT MISSION
I finished my Master thesis in Mathematics and wanted to make the world a better place than it is.
It never mattered much to me, what kind of job I will do, whether it is in an eco bank, a climate institute, a charity organisation, as long as it REALLY does good to society and environment...
I tried fundraising for big development aid organisations, corporate social responsibility management and some scientific research on the efficiency of airplanes, but none of that seems to REALLY do good. So I set out to work a small local NGO in Malawi to do some development aid, living without electricity and all that unnecessary stuff. That did make life better for the people we helped, but it did not change the causes for their situation. As most of these were not to be found in Africa, I returned to teach and share what I had learned. First I taught at a primary school in Nordenham, then I did an apprenticeship as a teacher in philosophy and math at gymnasium. I found out, it is not knowledge but human understanding and confirmity of thinking and acting humanity is lacking.* So I have moved back to my hometown to change the place with what I have learned in the world, renovate the chateau I am living in (childhood dream) and teach children humanity at a primary school. And I felt that those kids were very human to begin with but are tought to disconnect from their own needs and feelings. With an open heart, it is hard to watch that happen .
So now it's time again to step back, dive inside, reflect and reconnect to myself to find an even better way to make this world an even better place.
That's my project right now, for Germans: www.goodhumanbeingproject.com . There will be an English version soon, too.

* by now I would phrase that differently: We have lost connection. Connection to nature, to our fellow human beings, to time and even to our self. In our strive to become materially richer and ultimately to grow our status in society, we have become poor in so many other ways.
Let's reconnect, let's hug, let's share, let's accept, let's value, let's love all the world around us. It's desperately in need of that! :-)

+In case I forgot, my mobile phone number: +4915901870106 , if you are looking for a couch last minute just call or text. :-) I might reply...

'PHILOSOPHY'

To love something "because" is easy. But to love something "despite", to know its flaws and love them too, that is rare and pure and perfect.

Those, who think they ARE someone, have stopped becoming someone.

We have only got one life to live on this earth and we have only one earth to give to our children and grandchildren.

I can loose all I own without loss.

If you want people to understand you and your perspectives, try to understand them, understand how they feel, how they think, how they understand. So many troubles would not be, if one would consider the other ones perspective before judging. Every single person has it's own history and live, it's own experiences, it's own reasons for it's attitudes, everone can teach you something.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I sleep, I eat, I cook, I bake, I wash dishes, I play with kids, I talk and discuss. :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before I started couchsurfing, I have always met people on the streets and they took me in for a night or a few month. Even after starting to use CS in sweden, I sometimes fell back into my old behaviour. Both ways have proved succesful: I have been living up the hill in Rockhampton, Australia with some government official, in a cave in the desert, in a tent in a rainforest, with a couple of Georgian immigrants in the snowy northern part of Lappland's Taiga, with just-enjoy-live-and-don't-care-about-tomorrow-familys with lots of spoiled naughty kids and above-average-familys with well raised sons, with the family of a former african president, with a former hitman and rather violent junkies. The last experience is none I would like to repeat. No matter, what kind of people, it is important to me I do not only receive, but am allowed to give as well. (I don't like the feeling of abusing people, gaining without giving). As a simple example, i can barely stand sitting at a breakfast table and my host wants me to sit, while he/she is preparing, cleaning or something else...I have hosted in my students dormitory in Osnabrück a couple of times and I began to relax when hosting. I am living in a chateau, that is supposed to become an art gallery... one day. Let's see. Right now it is more like a mixture between a lost place and a construction site, apart from my flat, which is sort of habitable. Feel free to see for yourself!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: lots of fantasy, e.g. Robin Hobb, Tad Williams, Tolkien, Vivian Dittmar!!!
novels: paul auster (especially moon palace), de Llosa (bad girl), alaska,
others: the art of love, meditation, NLP (frogs into princess), parents effecitveness training
Movies: I don't like brutal, cut-belly-n-watch-scenes, but anything else is ok (nice movies to learn from are: shame, Tutta la vita davanti, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, walk the line, Dschungelkind, the white massai, sleeping dictionary, the bridges of madison county, The Sense of Wonder)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been dancing around Ayers Rock (Uluru, Australia), during a thunderstorm. Does not sound special, but it is in the middle of the desert, it hardly ever rains and even less often, there is a thunderstorm. I have only been there once in my life for one day, but that day there was a thunderstorm and even some rainbows . Whole rock was a waterfall. Could not stop myself from laughing, smiling, dancing that moment.

Teach, Learn, Share

making cakes, some cooking, chinese, few words in Chichewa, math, anything concerning fruit trees, swimming, eating with joy ( :-):-) especially for kids who don't eat their stuff), some basic self defence, simple paper arts (goose and stars), open ears, happiness :-)
