About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Hawaii, and have lived all over the world, including Morocco, Jordan, and most recently India. I LOVE to travel. I currently run an education consulting business around youth leadership, racial equity, and social justice... It's a bit hard to explain, but I love what I do :)

In general... I like the smell of rain on hot pavement, scratching itches, and trying new foods. I dislike retying my shoelaces, paying for metro tickets, and when my purse pulls my skirt, shorts, dress up on one side.

Please note: I am really busy in Portland and have little opportunity to host, but I'll let you know if I can. Respond with the secret word PORCUPINE to let me know you've read my profile carefully, otherwise I won't respond.

PHILOSOPHY

"knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention, through the restless, impatient, hopeful inquiry human beings pursue in the world, with the world, and with each other."

-Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

"We knew nothing; the gaps in our knowledge were random and annoying. They were potholes-- they could be patched but they multiplied without pattern or remorse. And even if we knew something, had read something, were almost sure of something, we wouldn't ever know the truth, or come anywhere close to it. The truth had to be seen. Anything else was a story, entertaining but more embroidered fib than crude, shapeless fact."

-You Shall Know Our Velocity, Dave Eggers

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Vow of silence and meditation for 10 days in Nepal changed my life. Found out about it from other surfers and travelers :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love this idea, but I have to take time to wrap my head around it. I'm a crafter, a tinkerer, and general jack of all trades. I literally like to learn about anything and everything.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If I have time, I can take you out in Portland, one of the foody capitals of the US :) Also a big fan of hiking in and around the local area and can certainly point you in the right direction.
