About Me

I am a lover of coincidence, wit, obscurity, absurdity, nature, simplicity, categories, boxes, minor chords, harmony, geeks, shoes, glass and silver shiny things.

Irrational Fears of: Dropping things over high ledges, sewing machines, walking over grates, essays.

Things that should scare me but don't: bees, moose, spiders, tests, driving in a fast car without a seat belt, people named Wayne.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My roommates and I hosted for the first time many summers ago and met so many amazing people coming up to see Alaska, many of them are still friends. Couch surfing is a really rewarding and personal way to travel!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm an avid media enthusiast,

Examples of things I like to watch:
The Wire, Mad Men, Girls, Louie, Bored to Death, Miyazaki, Kurosawa, PT Anderson, Wes Anderson

Examples of things I like to read:
The New Yorker, The Economist, Reddit, David Foster Wallace, Jonathan Franzen, The Stranger (both the novel and Seattle's weekly newspaper)

Examples of things to which I listen:
This may seem boring but I enjoy being quiet for most of the day, but I am sincerely a fan of skilled musicians. I enjoy classic rock/pop, small label bands including some avant garde sounds and the more "summer festival pop" stuff. I went to Sasquatch '11 and the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago in '12 and '13. I worked at my university's radio station KRUA 88.1FM, if anyone's heard of it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have: meditated with Zen Buddhist monks in Japan, been serenaded by Chinese opera star, danced in the gardens of the Alhambra, won a statewide film festival contest, taught my younger brother at 4 yrs old to play Katamari.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Japan, United Kingdom, United States
