About Me

CURRENT MISSION

learn more, do more, create more and get paid.

ABOUT ME

I'm a physically active 58 year old who likes to paint, do ceramic mosaics and other things with clay, draw, and come up with ideas for art projects.I also recently took up new media including making psychedelic video and digital photography. I spend a good deal of my recreational time in or around water either in liquid or frozen form. Skiing is my wintertime passion and inflatable kayaking is my latest love. I bicycle around town when not driving and also like to hike and mtn. bike on trails as long as it isn't too technical. I live in Reno as I raised two girls who are now 25 and 27 here and I used to teach art here for ten years in high school and middle school. I bought my house 15 years ago for studio space and have way too many projects going on at one time. I love to travel to get away from Reno to expand my horizons. I take frequent trips to California and recently visited Tucson, Ariz. I've done public art commissions and exhibited since 1975. I've been going to Burning Man since 1998 and camped with Tribe for a couple of years, two years with the Black Rock Burner Hostel, and 2006 with the BookMobile/SexFilth Avenue Boutique, 2010 and 2011 also with Sex Filth Avenue Boutique.

PHILOSOPHY

The world is full of wondrous opportunities to share, create, explore and love. I teach to pass on my experiences in art, I develop friendships to share life's journey and knowledge to enhance other people's lives as well as my own. I enjoy intimate long term friendships to make life more meaningful. Mostly, I like to have fun as I think that is what life is for.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I often host couchsurfers as they come to or pass through Reno. I have stayed at other people's homes in France and Italy as well as fellow couchsurfers in New Mexico and Virginia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A former student invited me to join him and his family for a stay in Costa Rica. They only spoke Spanish and I was just learning so it was a really fun, challenging visit. In the summer of 2006 I went to marseille, Nice and Nimes France and Rome, Florence, and Milan, Italy. My various hosts enriched my stay and made me feel most welcome. I've also had the opportunity to host several couchsurfers and stay with a few as I traveled between Reno and Fayetteville, Ar.

Interests

helping people, art, burning man, bicycling, rafting and kayaking, skiing, beaches, culture, travel, intellectual discussion of ideas, reading everything from comics to newsweek and now it includes a lot of art therapy books, eating spicey food. And last but not least I have a deep interest in my baby grandson.

Music, Movies, and Books

Just finished reading Art as Medicine, Art and Healing, and Art as a Way of Knowing, all excellent reads. I also recommend An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore,End of Poverty by Jeffry Sachs, and End of Faith by Sam Harris. I enjoy historical novels, all kinds of movies from Lucky Number Slevin to Wallace and Grommit, Pieces of April; 80s rock is my favorite-also like the music from the SF scene during the 60s,Traffic, bluegrass, folk, and U2,Lou Reed,David Bowie,Psychedelic Furs,Cowboy Junkies, Simon and Garfunkle and 10,000 Maniacs

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As I update this section on May 5,2009 it is truly amazing that I have recently become a grandmother and held my grandson in my arms. Both daughters have now blessed me with adorable grandsons, my other now 2 is a pure love and delight.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a working ceramics studio so if anybody would like to learn how to throw a pot you are most welcome. I also can teach you how to draw, paint, ski (i taught skiing for 5 years)and English if you don't speak the language. I taught English as a second language for 9 years. I'd love to learn more Spanish and French, and take up Italian. I could also use more technical skills when it comes to digital photography and computers.
