About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I have traveled to far corners of the world. My best experiences have been meeting people and learning about the culture. I still correspond with families in Belize and Vietnam. We don't have to speak the language to communicate beautifully.

ABOUT ME

I wear a few hats--crisis social worker, children's entertainer, children's writer, rescue squad volunteer, mommy. Born in New Orleans but have lived in central New Jersey for more than half my life. Love adventure travel--hiking, diving, white water rafting, caving, canoeing--especially to far away places. I'm blessed to have a husband who is my best friend and loves to do all the same things. Fred is a retired military officer and avid do-it-yourselfer.

PHILOSOPHY

Most important things in life: humor and friendship.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We love to host and to couchsurf--it's a joy to meet new people from all over the world! (CURRENTLY, WE ARE TEMPORARILY UNABLE TO HOST FOR A WHILE)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first couchsurfed with my then-teenage daughter for a night in Puerto Rico so she'd have a chance to meet locals and practice her Spanish, not just sightsee. It was a great experience. Couchsurfing was also the best part of our trip to Israel. We made great friends whom we remain in touch. I've since Couchsurfed frequently as I've traveled with my work as a children's author, when I visit schools.

My husband and I have had the pleasure of hosting quite a number of lovely and interesting people.

Interests

Hiking, caving, scuba diving, bike riding, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, historical areas, meeting people of other cultures... photography, creative writing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I especially enjoy historical novels that take me to far away places. Seems I even couchsurf in my fantasies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've backpacked through India, Israel, and Europe. I took a cab across the Sinai desert from Israel to Egypt shortly after the borders opened (long time ago!). I've rappelled waterfalls in Costa Rica and Ecuador, scuba dived in Thailand, Philippines, Mexico and Central America, hiked mountains in Vietnam, the Andes, and the Amazon; I cuddled with a tiger and bathed an elephant. I belong to a caving club, so I'm fine with mud, bugs and bats. I've been stung by a stingray, spit on by a camel, bit by a squirrel, thrown from a horse. A long time ago I nearly broke my butt parachuting, and very recently jumped off a high bridge on a rope swing. So far it's been a great ride.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, Canada, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Germany, Honduras, India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Mexico, Panama, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
