About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I love traveling and my favorite experiences have been spontaneous. I love the idea of meeting new people this way, and getting a true experience of a destination with a native.

ABOUT ME

One year I hitch-hiked 20,000 miles and met wonderful people who opened their lives to me. I love house guests and have often longed for more connection when I travel.

If you want to stay with me, be prepared for two energetic boys who will want to tell you jokes, show you their artwork, and play board games with you. (They’re grown up now… those were the days)

PHILOSOPHY

Anything is possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We mostly host, and we love welcoming travelers into our home. We've attended a few local couch-surfing events. We surfed twice in Costa Rica, once in Switzerland, and a few times in the US. My best memories of travel are usually of the people I befriended along the way--that's why I love CouchSurfing!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Once I was an accidental couchsurfer... I was planning to kayak down a river in Texas, and drove up the night before. The guidebook directed me to a put-in spot near a town. I arrived in the town around sunset to discover it consisted of a general store/cafe and a post office. In the store/cafe I found four older people playing dominoes, and I asked them if they knew of a nearby camping spot. They said sure, we'll show you after we finish this game. An hour later they walked me across the street and showed me the charming guest bedroom in their home... then went on to fondly tell me they had kids my age who loved to travel and we stayed up half the night telling stories. We have stayed in touch over the years, and I visited their kids a few months later in B.C. Canada, which was great fun.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Comedy, drama, love stories, adventure.
Books: The Time Travelers Wife, everything by Paulo Coelho, The Body Keeps the Score, YA like Harry Potter, Anne McCaffrey, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra....
Music: Bluegrass, classical, country, jazz, new age, folk, classic rock, zydeco, anything I can dance to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed the Grand Teton when I was 5.5 months pregnant. It was especially amazing when a lightening and hail storm blew in and we were near the top and had to race down for shelter...and watched a rescue helicopter airlifting someone who had been struck by lightening.

Update: When that boy who was in my tummy was 11 he climbed all the way to the top of the Grand Teton along with his 9-year-old brother, his father and me!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can learn more about simplifying life. Traveling is so good for that.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A healthy meal.
