Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Cross the atlantic on a pedalboat
ABOUT ME
F.R.E.D. stands for "Flying, ridiculous, expensive disaster" I'm somewhat like that!
But more seriously I'm what you'd call a generalist; part intellectual, part artist, part-y animal, part asshole and part gentleman.
Basically if you don't have a broomstick up your arse you should like me and I should like you. But I'll let you judge by yourself if we meet.
PHILOSOPHY
"Without contraries is no progression."
You might want to read William Blake's Marriage of Heaven and Hell, should you wish to understand me better... along with the Tao Te King.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Very sociable but not into group things... I have some kind of a love/hate relationship with people!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Haven't surfed through the site yet. I have, however, surfed on many couches mostly in France but also in Switzerland and Morrocco. I would just meet people and ask them, sometimes they offered spontaneously. Probably the best way to do it.
I hosted some guy a few months back that a german friend who had just left Canada had received a request from. She send me his cell phone number and he ended up at my place after a night out drinking.
Hosted three times since living in Quebec. Good experience.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music and books, no big cinema lover. I prefer theater.
Way too much of either (especially music) to list it all here. But here are a few important books beside the two I already mentionned:
Amours Risibles, Kundera
La Peste, Camus
Dune(all of them), Herbert
Confessions of English Opium-eater, De Quincey
Au nom de tous les miens, Martin Gray
Liaisons Dangereuses, Laclos
The Favorite Game, Leonard Cohen
Voyage au bout de la nuit, Céline
Heart of Darkness, Conrad (and everything he wrote I've read)
L'Art d'aimer, Ovide
Midnight's Children, Salman Rushdie
Plus lots of essays in political philosophy. I liked De Tocqueville a lot, J.S. Mill also and more recently I've been into those thinkers they would not have me read in school; Bakunin, Kropotkin, Proudhon.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sleeping under the stars in Morrocco.
Staying with refugees in a campfire in Nicaragua.
Been a photographer for a porno studio.
Stayed broke and hungry (but how stimulated) in Paris for weeks after missing a plane back home. Thanks again to Frank for his generously offered hardwood floor!
Many transcendental Mushroom trips!
Teach, Learn, Share
Teacing: Being a generalist, there isn't much I can really teach beyond English and French.
Share: I can have a meaningful discussion on just about anything and by the end we should both feel wiser! (yes I have quite an ego)
Good recipes and cocktails
Learning: Infinitely curious but this year I want to re-learn Spanish.
Looking for a partner/teacher for some tango lessons. Also want to start reading philosophy (not political) but I do that on my own. Still I would appreciate finding some poeple to discuss these things. That's the only thing I miss from university.
Countries I’ve Visited
Canada, France, Morocco, Nicaragua, Switzerland
