About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I read back issues of the New Yorker, can make bread without kneading the dough, and use oversized chocolate chips in my cookies.

I've played violin with Dave Brubeck and watched Nelson Mandela speak.

I developed the threat-balance model.

I've driven, legally, on both sides of the road and can parallel park in New York City.

I vote with my money.

I've driven from NYC to Richmond, IN in one day, jumped out of an airplane, and roasted my own chestnuts.

I've been a vegetarian since before I was born.

I've been charged by a bull elephant and licked by a giraffe.

I can change my own tire.

I rode in a 65-mile bike race with a frisbee on my head and can speak isiXhosa.

I've reinstalled Windows on my PC. Twice.

I've emptied a storage unit, knitted a scarf, and painted my living room orange.

I often get the triple word score in scrabble.

I have a good sense of direction and can successfully refold road maps.

I drink out of mason jars.

I can do the Samuri Sudoku and I put yeast on my popcorn.

I snowboarded down a volcano and swam in the Nile River.

I listen to NPR.

I paint my own origami paper and I've collected all 50 state quarters.

I've hiked on the Appalachian Trail but I never got my Obama car magnet in the mail.

I've been in four different hemispheres and three different oceans. I've stood in two hemispheres at once and straddled two oceans.

I've had to look under my car for penguins.

I want to be the change I want to see in the world.

PHILOSOPHY

Boy, that's a big one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

They have been fantastic and I can't wait to have many more.

Interests

Rethinking the way we define food. Read your labels! Do you what you're eating? Do you know where it came from? Is it whole? Is it local? Does it give you power?

Healing through eating; practicing preventative medicine.

Finding the root cause of pain and discomfort and addressing it at its source.

Ultimate. The sport and life philosophies it teaches us.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music. Live music, if I can help it. I like music with words. And when people are playing real instruments. Especially those made out of wood. Bluegrass, Folk, Rock. And don't forget the singing.

I like movies that are elusive, that don't make easy sense but change your life.

The best last book I read was The Time Traveler's Wife.
