Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I always love having house guests coming from everywhere from South Africa to Austria and staying on couches of friends and acquaintances when off on my travels. I think staying with a local gives you a much better insight a country's culture, and you end up having much more fun! My only official couch surfing experience so far was staying one night in La Serena Chile, it was a lot of fun getting drunk on the beach!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies but have a bad habit of falling asleep in the middle so that they get mixed up with my dreams. Off the top of my head I liked Cinema Paradiso, Pulp Fiction, The Princess Bride, The Motorcycle Diaries and lots of Woody Allen movies. I like talking through movies but shush me enough and i'll shut up.

I like reading in the bath. Never lend me a good book; the pages will come back curled and damp. Never lend me a bad book either please. I have enough books of my own anyway because I buy more than I could possibly read. Books and authors I have liked include; The Secret History, Fugitive Pieces, On the Road, The Time Traveler's Wife, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Lolita, The Little Prince, The House of the Spirits and anything by Barbara Trapido and J.D Salinger. I am liking Virginia Woolf a lot at the moment too.

I like singing a long to a song with someone that you both love so much that you know every little breath and chord change and drum beat, especially if it's a really embarrassing song that no one should know as well as that. Personally, Regina Spektor, Joanna Newsom, Kimya Dawson, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, The Smiths, Otis Redding and Madonna take up a shameful proportion of my on the bus ipod time. I also have an odd enthusiasm for 80s power ballads and Britney Spears. Make me a mixed cd and i'll like you always.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have few practical skills BUT I know the words to lots of songs that I can teach you, I can do a nice neat cartwheel and am a mean dish washer upperer if you will let me. I also know I really good, complicated secret handshake that I will share with you if you are really nice. I work in an art supplies shop and sometimes get damaged art supplies for free if you're into that whole scene.
