About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make lots of fun mistakes

ABOUT ME

I am a graduate student in the geophysical sciences at the University of Chicago. I am very interested in climate change and the science behind predicting and addressing it. Some of my best travel expereinces revolve around discussing these issues with people all over the world.

I have a lot of experience traveling and living with people abroad, although mostly through organized programs. I have done homestays in Grenada, Spain, and Salta, Argentina, so I like to think I know how to be a good guest. I'm pretty god at going with the flow; I'll eat anything, sleep anywhere, put up with any amount of noise, bad smells, whatever. In fact, the more the better, as far as I'm concerned traveling and hosting travelers is not about comfort, its about the experience of dealing with and learning from discomfort.

PHILOSOPHY

It sounds corny but the major thing I have been pondering recently was inspired by a Mad Men quote, which went something like: "Happiness lies in figuring out the difference between what you want and what is expected of you". These two things are often conflated and I am trying to separate them out in my life right now.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted a couple of people in California when I was at Pomona College, which was great, and I just got back from a trip through eastern Europe where I CS'd in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Interests

I am applying what I learned as an undergraduate physics major to Atmospheric and Climate science, so I am very interested in climate change and environmentalism. I love to argue about the science and politics of global warming. I am also into painting, which I studied a bit in college and continue to do on the side. I will probably have a studio set up in my apartment soon.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big metal-head. If you are Scandinavian and into metal be prepared to talk about it.

as far as books, my favorites so far are:

Grendel, Notes from Underground, Swords and deviltry, Necronomicon, Game of thrones...

So I guess the theme is dark Literature and sci-fi/ fantasy.
