About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am a world citizen hobo, with my time divided between working at wineries in countries around the world, exploring areas which are lacking in wineries during the off-season, and looking for experience, love, adventure, culture, good food and good people

ABOUT ME

I am traveling the world and looking for adventure, culture, good food, and good people. I fund the travels with brief flurries of work in my chosen field: winemaking. Occasionally I also find work in other fields, mostly waiting on tables in restaurants. I have too many hobbies to find time for, but foremost and currently active among them are traveling, hiking and camping, cooking, drinking well-crafted beverages (beer, wine, distilled spirits, etc etc), yoga, receiving massages, basketball, weight-lifting, learning new languages, biking, reading, writing, and watching movies. I think that too many people accept video games, TV, routine, and habit as an excuse for the range of life experiences available, and I firmly believe that this is a shame. I try to live life fully and with awareness of my actions and influence on the world around me. I hope I am succeeding.

PHILOSOPHY

The world is here to be lived in, and experienced, and improved and preserved for the future. People should interact honestly and intensely, and only inasmuch as is desired by all those involved. Guilt and pity should not exist. People should act out of honor, pride, belief, and love, not guilt and pity and duty. I love the world and many people in it, but on the other side of this same coin, I hate many people, and find some completely irrelevant. My family, friends, and other wandering spirits who I meet are of immense importance to me. In spite of my somewhat intense philosophy, I've found that the result is a simple life, lived happily, because my world is the world I want. As my brother said, I create the world I want to live in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing couches, meeting up with other couchsurfers in my hometown and elsewhere in the world, spreading love

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far it has blown my mind. The people I have met are very friendly, open-minded, and fun-loving, and have not simply enriched my experiences; they have helped create my experiences.

Interests

Activity: must stay active, engage and experience the world directly and with intensity. Anything that broadens the mind, amuses the soul or strengthens the body and spirit, is my interest and constant endeavor.

Music, Movies, and Books

My tastes are pretty broad, but often on the bizarre side of things. I pay a lot of attention to lyrics in music, so rap and bluegrass are awesome, and some indie rock. I like my instrumentation eclectic, creative, and intense, so again, indie rock, rap, bluegrass are all great, as experimental and challenging as possible. But also, some of my favorite bands are somewhere in the ska-punk nexus, for example Sublime is probably the best band ever. And on a lazy Sunday, there is no arguing with some Jack Johnson. There are too many good movies to watch, but few are played in theaters. Kurt Vonnegut, Nabokov, Kosinski, Hemingway, and Steinbeck are a few of my favorite authors.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I zip-glided between treehouses 100's of feet above the ground in Laos.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach about wine, beer, and distilled spirits, as they were my field of study during university. And I don't mean just by drinking them; I could easily show someone how to set up a home brewing, winemaking, or (with more effort and expense), distillation setup. I am also an excellent cook and can teach someone a few things in that category. And if anyone wants to learn English, I would be glad to help, especially in exchange for them teaching me Spanish.
