About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Give back to the global CS community & keep the spirit of my overseas travel alive in my home country
PHILOSOPHY
A few oldies but goodies...
"You only get out of it what you put in".
"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you".
"To thine own self be true".
And one for CSing...
"Be the visitor in the place you're living & the local in the place you're visiting".
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I first became an active participant in CS in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada where I lived for 9 months in 2009. There was a particularly active local network there at the time and as a newcomer to town it was fantastic socially with monthly gatherings and weekend travelling trips. I spent 4 years overseas and was fortunate enough to surf couches in Canada, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Malta & Wales. I enjoyed the exchange of cultures available through CSing - sharing tips with locals and fellow travellers for things to do and see and giving people insight into my home country, Australia. Now that I'm back home, I want to give back to the global CS community and share my little part of Australia with other travellers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I surfed 1 couch in Halifax, Canada more in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Malta and a few in Wales - I've had nothing but great experiences. I lived in St. John's Newfoundland for 9 months in 2009 and found the local Couch Surfing community to be a fantastic social network with lots of fun and interesting things to do and people to meet. In Malta, a fellow CSing friend and I were able to travel for 2 weeks without staying in a hotel or backpackers and met lots of fun & interesting people along the way. CSing in Ireland and Northern Ireland was a great way to establish a 'real connection' in places where tourism is the biggest industry. Now that I'm back home, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to return all the favours people have done for me.
Interests
Walking, hiking, swimming, jogging, snowboarding, surfing...just generally getting out and about in whatever the natural landscape around me has to offer!
Nature and our environment. Organic food and farming. Permaculture. Transition Towns. Travel, other cultures, history, the 'good ole days' & ways, live music, cooking, eating and sharing good food. When travelling, I generally seek authentic experiences and places outside cities.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like most music except hardcore yelling screaming cookie monster noise and lots of rap :). Whatever it is I like it live.
While travelling I am interested in whatever book comes my way as I come to the end of the one I'm already reading.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I climbed to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park and felt like I was on top of the world!
Teach, Learn, Share
I have knowledge/skills in the following topics:
natural environment issues/actions/processes/management, sport and exercise, solo travel (Canada, USA, UK, western Europe), living in Australia, cooking, organising, playing violin and guitar (very rusty though!).
