About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To keep on traveling until the itch is gone, and to live authentically and with as much integrity as possible.

ABOUT ME

A healthy senior trying to enjoy life to the fullest, more or less retired. My daughter's family lives near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and my son's family lives nearby here in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Four wonderful grandchildren. I am editor of a magazine, The Universalist Herald. Check it out at universalist-herald.net and ask me for a free copy.
For being 68 years old I am quite healthy and can do almost anything you might wish to do.
White water paddling has been my favorite outdoor activity, but these days I am quite content to float a stream with enough ledges and rock gardens to keep it interesting. And there are plenty of streams around here to choose from. I have two Mad River canoes.

PHILOSOPHY

I truly try to live simply and to leave as little trace as possible. Everyone I meet has a gift for me and I for them. I wish to live my remaining years with as much honesty and integrity as possible, and to continue learning from the models constantly showing up in my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have had wonderful surfing experiences and I look forward to more. As I can I will be happy to host other surfers, and if there are any in the area I would love to drive over and give them a tour, show them around, or whatever will help make their CS experience as wonderful as mine has been.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before joining as a verified couchsurfer I had been doing it in a fashion already the past several years. My first trip took me through the Eastern US, where I stayed with friends in Black Mountain, North Carolina; Saint Simons Island, Georgia; Mount Olive, North Carolina; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Unger, West Virginia. I also tent camp when the circumstances call for it.
Staying with my friends Harry and Elaine Hamil in Black Mountain was special. They are such neat people! But not "neat" in the usual sense of the word. Harry spent about 20 minutes clearing off just one/half of the guest bed so I would have a place to lie my head!!
Then came my trip to Europe in May of 2009! I took almost a month, with 7 days of couchsurfing in Nancy, Paris, and Marseille. Susan, Cecile, and frenetic Flo! All three unforgettable hosts!

Interests

Editing my magazine. Paddling my Mad River canoes. Hiking, reading, playing Scrabble, sports, playing basketball, body surfing. Traveling (Duh!) and making new friends. My newest interest is astronomy. My Lord, what they are discovering these days, and with the two new telescopes soon to be searching the starry starry skies what wonders we will behold! I would pay for a trip to the space station if I had the money.

Music, Movies, and Books

Loving the new movies! Anything Daniel Day-Lewis is in, like LINCOLN. LIFE of PI I found exquisite! I am listening to Native American music a lot these days, also Singh Kaur, an ethereal voice, died way too young! Reading mostly books on Christian Universalism.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Facing a huge black bear alone on an island in western Ontario. Skydived at 55. Going to hot air balloon this Spring!

Teach, Learn, Share

I learned so much from my recent trip to Europe. I stayed away from most of the "touristy" places and focussed on the people I encountered along the way. What a neat experience with my CS host to go into this tea house in Marseille and find ourselves walking on about 5 inches of beautiful clean sand! Conversations on the train were delightful! I suppose some people just want to curl up with a book as they race past the woods and meadows, but I found some very interesting people on the train. So leave the book aside and go where the "real stuff" is - the people you meet along the way.
