ABOUT ME

hmmm where do i start...
I grew up on the west coast of Vancouver Island, where I believe has some of the most natural beauty in the world. I explored as much of it as I could growing up...getting places either by bicycle or kayak.

I travel as much as I can, wherever I can, whenever I can - the beauty of the world and the people in it will never cease to astound me.

I'm happiest on the road or in a foreign place that I know nothing about. My enjoyment multiplies if I can't understand the language, because then you take to charades...which is just awesome :)

I bet I can find something amazing in YOU :)

My life consists of a series of awkward moments that are pretty much the core of my being. One day i will write a play about it, and it will consist of sing-alongs and awesome choreography. It would be a comedy if it weren't so tragic - HA!

Oh ya, and I'm pretty much the coolest person you'll ever meet in real life :P

PHILOSOPHY

It's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

"Sometimes I imagine as many as six impossible things before breakfast" - Lewis Carroll, from Alice in Wonderland

"The central epiphany in every Religious belief occurs in the wilderness. Buddha had to go to the wilderness to experience self-realization. Mohammed had to go to the wilderness to have his central realization. Moses went into the wilderness for days to experience his divinity for the first time. The wilderness has always played a critical role. It's where human beings most easily sense the divine." ~Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

"Travelling develops understanding. Staying at home develops prejudice." - Anon.

"Put your cooler in the tree. A tent is just a zip-lock bag for bears" - My friend Dan, explaining to the kids camp group why they had to do this. lol.

Do what makes you happy...and everything else will follow. - ME

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host, I surf, and I plan on going to weekly meet-ups :) (i'm new, so this hasn't happened yet). I couch-surfed my way through Europe a few years ago, before CS...so I am definitely seasoned :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was on the overnight train from Milan to Munich, and was sharing a cabin with an Italian girl who was studying in Germany, and going to her dad's in Switzerland. The train was stopping in Zurich before Munich, and we had spent all night talking...she invited me to spend the day with her in Zurich before continuing on my journey...it was the most amazing thing to have a complete stranger open up their home, and to this day is the highlight of my trip.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was fortunate enough to have parents who believed in minimalism and instead of 5 star resorts and disneyland for vacations, every summer we would find some new remote location to set up camp for a month or so. Sometimes there were showers, sometimes there weren't. Most of the time there weren't. That was made up for however, with nights spent camping on beaches being the only people for miles, listening to the waves and watching the stars. In the morning my mom would make coffee (the one luxury she couldn't live without - do you blame her?), and trade hot coffee with the local fisherman in the morning for fresh (and i mean FRESH) fish. I still remember the day we were cooking said fish on an open fire on the beach, and a GIANT grizzly bear came looking for it...my mom took me and my brother behind a log, where we watched my dad fend off the bear with a stick of fire. Reminded me of a scene in the Jungle book. Classic :)

I have also slept in probably every train station & airport across western Europe :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I make the best mac & cheese on this earth. I don't make it very often, b/c I think it makes all the other food jealous. But if you surf with me, you might be lucky enough to taste it :)
