About Me

Born and .
.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I truly believe in living life through experiences. Travel opens out innumerable opportunities to explore and enjoy everything I love from culture and history, to getting to know people from varied backgrounds, adventure and discovery.

My experiences so far have made me realize how we can connect with people from different corners of the world through the arts, nature, food and conversations. Language and backgrounds is never a barrier for understanding and respecting each other. Couchsurfing provides a very straightforward and genuine way of interacting with people and experiencing a place in its true flavour. This is what interests me the most, for I feel that a place is best experienced through interactions with locals and fellow travelers. And these interactions lead to longlasting friendships and fascinating learning experiences through shared knowledge.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I have always enjoyed music of various genres. From classical music and country to jazz, lounge and rap, music interests me in many ways.

Movies: The Gladiator, The Sound of Music, The Notebook, Rocky Series, Mary Poppins, How to Train Your Dragon, The Bone Collector, Avengers, Pretty Woman

Books: The Prophet by Khalil Gibran, Open by Andre Agassi, It's Not About the Bike by Lance Armstrong, Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler, Ways of Seeing by John Berger, The Princess Series by Jean Sasson, Catcher in the Rye by J.D.Salinger

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I represented my country in the 3rd World Silambam Championship held at Malaysia in February 2015 as a part of the 50 member Indian contingent and won 8 Medals (4-Silver, 4-Bronze). Silambam is a traditional martial form which originated in South India. The main weapon is a staff made of bamboo which is also used in other Asian martial arts as a 'bo staff'. I have been blessed to train under one of the seniormost SIlambam practitioners in India and am currently training to compete in the forthcoming tournaments this year.

Teach, Learn, Share

Meeting people automatically leads me to learn from them, and share my experiences, thoughts and knowledge. I have explored and experienced a wide range of activities from trekking and outdoor activity to photography, art therapy, creative arts, design and education. This has led me to be a continuous learner and teacher, constantly thirsty to learn and experience new things.

Conducted many workshops and seminars on Art, Design, Portfolio Development, Design Thinking, Interior Design, Art Therapy, Guidance for Creative Education and Remedial projects for students and educators of diverse backgrounds.

Spoke at the TEDxYouth @ Chennai 2013 on Creativity as a way of living.

Organised workshops on Women's Self-Defense, Functional Fitness, etc for The Chennai Trekking Club

Conducting specialised classes for students to produce art and design portfolio to gain into universities in India and other parts of the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to share my knowledge and experiences in Art and Design, Silambam (indian traditional martial art), Photography, Indian Cultural and Traditional Wealth through art, architecture and customs, etc.

Being a completely hands-on person, I would love to pitch in to help hosts on any projects they are working on and would love to explore ideas to collaborate and work together on varied projects bringing together our skills and experiences.
