About Me

Hi there!

Well let's see, my favourite things are pretty much all outdoors; extreme sports and new adventures are what I'm all about! I also enjoy art and craft, markets, walking around new towns, trying to dance salsa, trying to speak Spanish, cooking up new and sometimes weird foods, and generally having a good time!

I enjoy good company and real conversation and feel lucky to have met so many different and interesting characters on my travels! I'm always happy to make a new friend and I think travelling has helped me to become more outgoing and social. I'm excited to get into couchsurfing! I feel like my life kind of has contained a lot of couchsurfing type experiences, but more in a friend of a friend of a friend and we all help each other out kind of way, so hoping this will have the same vibe :).

I am about to take a little break from my travel and spend a week in Miami from the 7th of Dec to the 15th. This is a new city for me so I am hoping to meet some nice couchsurfers and to enjoy the beautiful weather. Before this I just spent 6 months in Mexico learning some Spanish (need a lot more practice, haha) and working at hotels and hostels. My next plan from the 15th is to sail the Caribbean for winter on a little boat where I have found a sort of volunteer job.

I am vegetarian, non-smoking and environmentally and socially conscious. I love being outdoors, animals and nature. I don't mind living a bit more 'rustic'. I recently worked a helpx job that had me living in a broken-down trailer on the beach for 6 weeks - and loved it, and the boat for this winter is a little 27fter, so I'm not going to mind if the couch is taken, I'll be happy on the floor :). Also I have a tent, so if camping ever comes up, I'm ready! :D

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Right now I am travelling, so hoping to find some kind hosts to make friends with. In the future I hope to pay it forward by hosting as well :). Right now I am happy to show my gratitude by cleaning, cooking or helping out with maintenance, painting etc.

Interests

Outdoor activities, hiking, camping, sports, adventures.
I love snowboarding and have done this a lot, but would like to improve my summer board sports, particularly windsurfing and kitesurfing, but also surfing, wake boarding, I pretty much just love spending time in the water, all the water sports are great! I also hope to get more diving and snorkelling in this season, as I already have my PADI open water certificate.
But I also like more chill days, just walking around town, picnics, markets, art galleries, beers, it's all great too!
Oh, and wildlife stuff too! I love animals, wild and tame, not really a fan of zoos though.

Music, Movies, and Books

Recently I'm all about the salsa music, even though I have a little trouble with the whole rhythm thing, haha. I feel like with a partner I can do okay, but without I am lost! Other than salsa, buchata etc, I have wide ranging tastes in music. I like most genres, rock, pop, country, electronic, metal, reggae etc. I'm not a huge fan of rap, but hey, maybe that could change.

I do like to read, and used to a lot, but recently every time I look at a book it is a Spanish textbook! And before that a nutrition textbook, and before that a art history textbook. Anyway right now I have a book called The Faraway Nearby by Rebecca Solnit, so far I like it. I really like swapping books with other travellers and wondering all the places they have been.

Movies, I like them but I haven't seen that many of them! I'm very bad at identifying celebrities or knowing even classic movies, but hey, you can always continue my education with that!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well here is a hard question!
The first time I set off travelling. I had just finished high school and had never left the country before or done much travelling at all so I decided to move to Canada to work on a ski resort. Everything was insanely surreal, the view from the plane, the feeling of the crisp, cool air as I walked out of the airport, the mountains and snow like I had never seen before. And just like that I was hooked on travel!

Teach, Learn, Share

Anything you have to teach, most likely I would like to learn. Particularly any eco knowledge or crafty skills but I really have very wide ranging interests so all knowledge is useful knowledge!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Erm, I can teach you how to sew and knit, or how to make a camp stove out of a soda can, or maybe some new recipes :). I have been reading about how to make a solar oven recently, I have vision of baking bread on a sunny Caribbean beach this winter :p. Unsure how well that one will go!

Happy to cook you something yummy and hoping to share stories of travel and adventure!
