Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting, at present.

Sending surfers to one of my favorite places in the world: Go to the
Athens Juice Bar
6942 Collins Ave
Miami Beach, FL 33141
Get Directions Phone number (305) 861-2143
The best fresh pressed coconut milk you will ever experience. Get it with mango pieces (no juice) blended in; tell them I sent you. Been going there since '76; they've been in business (the same family, 3 generations) since 1942.

One of my fellow massage therapist friends says, "We stay in Miami because of Athens."

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted a lady who was on her way to South America, another who was returning to the states from Rome, as well as a young couple from Moscow. I always enjoy meeting interesting people. I have had many good experiences with couchsurfers, as you will see in my references.

I'm happy to do coffee and/or breakfast with my surfers and sometimes we do things together in the evening or even during the day if I am free. But if I have work or other things to do, I expect that surfers are out and about going places and doing things during the day, regardless of whether they have their own transportation.. Please do not expect to just hang out in my house all day. I have had two misunderstandings about this through the years, one of them recent, which prompted me to add this paragraph.

There is one negative review, which was written as a retaliation of a truthful negative review (the first I have ever written for a couchsurfer) which was given to the following surfer. The way reviews are done now, this retaliatory revision would not be allowed. I am posting her original review here. Although not the best, it was still termed positive. Since then, I have received crude, rude & vulgar messages from this individual. Here is the original (corrections of punctuation added):

[CS Reference written: EVAGOBLIN] NEW reference
EVAGOBLIN has written the following reference about you on your profile:
As his many testimonials attest, Jeff is a genial man who has hosted many couchsurfers but, if circumstances dictate that you need to stay extra days, it's best that you try to find someone else for those extra days. Although he will graciously accommodate you if he can, he's not thrilled about it.
He will generously offer beers (he has a large selection of many craft beers) but, if you partake of it, be sure that you have some extra cash to help him pay for it. If you are straitlaced, be aware that he has a very unconventional lifestyle and background.
He is also not one for siteseeing so, if you want to do that, be very independent or find another CS who, if
they are unable to host you, would enjoy being out with you.

Note the changes made to the original in her revised reference below, even implying that I had an inappropriate interest in her overweight persona, who had an unhealthy cough that sounded like TB. She thought $30 was fair compensation for getting picked up at the airport plus 3 days and two nights of excellent food, wine & craft beer. Really??

Interests

I love to swim, do yoga, cycle, and give & receive massage (that is my profession, at present). I also do weight training but don't love it so much.
I enjoy listening to and playing music. I also love microbrews and appreciate a good red wine, as well. I don't mind a good rum that is not white or a good single malt Scotch, either. I enjoy cooking, snorkeling, scuba diving, springboard & platform diving (I competed in this when I was younger).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scraping along a concrete retaining wall for a distance while on a motorcycle left me pretty awestruck, not necessarily in a positive way. But I've healed & learned a lesson with some scar tissue as a continual reminder that remains, though it diminishes as time goes on.

Jumping out of an airplane is up there on the list.

Playing in a band with both famous and unknown folks; the interaction between musicians can be a phenomenal experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everyone has something to offer & teach. Massage therapy is my profession & my passion, as well as fitness & nutrition. Health & fitness are the things that enable life to be lived well. I believe that 90% of health problems in the US could be eliminated with regular physical activity & proper nutrition.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am neat & don't create messes in anyone's space. I'm good in the kitchen and can help with food prep, cooking, and clean up, if we are sharing that experience. Always happy to contribute to or bring in groceries, a good bottle of wine and/or some craft beer.
I can also offer some exercise and/or nutritional advice if desired and offer some massage therapy in small doses. This is my livelihood and I generally don't give away extended sessions.

Countries I’ve Visited
