About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Enjoy life, visit as many of the worlds amazing places as possible, and help others where possible
ABOUT ME
Husband and Wife couple (Kyle and Maryanne), although Kyle is often busy working away from 'home'.
In 2014 we sailed our boat from the Atlantic to the Pacific and setup home in Oakland California. We've spent several years sailing around with various boats. We've spent time in the Caribbean, Australia, Europe, the USA, and many other places (not always with the boat), and we are not done yet.
We love life, each other's company, and love to meet interesting people who are also enjoying the life they choose.
We read, and read, and read - can't get enough. Big cat lovers but due to our lifestyle can't have one (so we love to give extra fuss to other people's cats). Kyle is a HUGE parrot lover too.
Most people find us a bit of a comedy duo, we hope you have a sense of humor. Separately we are each quite a bit quieter and more shy.
We are gentle atheists. We are happy to live and let live for the most part but we don't want to spend time hanging with extremists or evangelicals regardless of religion.
PHILOSOPHY
Try to follow a tread lightly approach to life, people, and the planet at large.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Will be happy to host (or more likely meet up with) interesting individuals or couples aboard Begonia, or in the towns we travel to.
Whenever the boat was going to be somewhere for more than a week or so, we'll post where we are and offer to host. (for now that is Oakland, CA)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Met with lots of CouchSurfers as I've travelled around and always enjoyed it - I get to host occasionally when I'm parked up for a while. Mostly as I travel I like to connect with locals to talk (rather than to actually couch surf), I love to share some time in a nice bar, or chatting while cooking, or just walking around a new place.
Interests
Cooking (I especially like learning local recipes), making history real (not school book stuff), travel, good conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books
Love reading - fiction and non-fiction, anything that will inspire, make me laugh, think or relax.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We crossed the Atlantic on our sailboat (just the two of us) and made it safely to the other side in one piece (Whew!).
Teach, Learn, Share
Tell me about a recipe from your country. I love to cook and play with new flavours/methods. If you are a traveller and your backpack/luggage is failing you, I have a heavy duty sewing machine and may be able to rescue you.
