ABOUT ME
Hola! You can call me Addy if you find it a little difficult to pronounce my name. I love it either way!
I'm basically from Salem, a small city in Southern India. After schooling, I attended SRCC, Delhi University to earn my bachelor's degree. Currently living in Chennai, I work for myself and study part time. My work requires frequent travel to most of the major Indian cities.
I'm always excited about travelling places, getting to know new people, exchanging culture, learn new words from other languages, try different cuisines, celebrate their festivals and share experiences.
Salado! The counties I have covered is only a droplet in a bucket mainly due to my academic and professional commitments. Going forward, I plan to travel more so that I visit atleast thirty of the world countries before I'm 30.
As I always love being in the company of others, a Solo trip isn't what I have thought about. All the leisure trips taken were either with family or friends in the past. Lately, travelling all alone interests me and I hope to make it soon.
Everyone these days are bug bitten and wants to call themselves a traveller or a foodie!! But who doesn't want to, if you don't have to work for your money or stay trim even without exercising? I have taken trips almost every week and have eaten almost everything I see on the way even during my pre-teens!! Jajaja!
I'm more of a hill person than a beach person. Maybe because of my native city, which is surrounded by hills on all sides. Not that I love beaches less, but I guess Indian beaches aren't too romantic. Haha. I love pets and every dog loves me. Not sure about the cats though. I find them too demanding and selfish! Lol.
PHILOSOPHY
"Athithi Devo Bhava"
It is a Sanksrit verse from a 6th century BC Hindu scripture called Upanishad. It simply means to consider the guest as God.
"Sel virunthombi varu virundhu kaathirupaan
nal virundhu vaanathavarku" meaning
"One who is hospitable to his guest, and when they leave awaits his next guest, will be a welcome-guest in the heavens"
This signifies the importance of "Virundhombal" (hospitality) in Tamil culture, as put by the celebrated Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar in Thirukkural, a chef d'oeuvre for the universe.
I'm not too religious or philosophical but these were imbibed habitually and I'm proud of the way my parents have raised me. It's my way of life!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm totally new to CS and wish I had known this years ago. Travelling would have been easier and regular with the inputs I get from here.
As I'm always crazy about travel and making new friends, I find this as a great platform to do what I enjoy the most.
More than 2000 years ago, Kaniyan Pungundranar, a Tamil scholar said "Yaadhum Oore, Yaavarum Kaelir", which means
"All places are one, all people are kin".
Strike a chord? Take a look at the tagline of CS again!
Interests
Exploring new places, getting lost and finding my way back home!
I love to swim and play badminton. I used to compete at the State and University level for shuttle badminton and water polo respectively!

Music, Movies, and Books
I love music, I mean the good ones! The genre totally depends on my mood. I sing a lot but the shower and closet are my only audience. Lol. My favourites list goes on like Bryan Adams, Maroon 5, 1D, Backstreet Boys, Enrique Iglesias, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, One Republic, Phillip Phillips, AR Rahman, Illayaraja, etc.
Books really don't get my love for they're too time consuming and I already have enough to read for my academics and professional life. Have read a very few books until now and I can no longer be awake after a couple of pages. I prefer to watch them as movies, once they're made. Do remember to ask me about the first book I've ever read which kept me gripping till the end!!
I consider myself a movie buff! I have binge watched 4-5 movies a day continuously for 6 months during college. I know it's crazy but I watch any good movie regardless of the language or genre. I really need to start something like IMdB to list down my favourites. Haha!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Actually a lot of interesting things which I can go on and on once we catch up. But one thing which I can share now was me not expecting a stay request from a surfer within 3 days of signing up for CS.
I hosted her a couple of days before sending her to my friend's place as I had to undertake a sudden travel. We are very good friends now. Pura Vida!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you to be practical, independent and start loving the life. I'll make sure you never ever will feel low in spirits again in life. I can teach you some Tamil or Hindi language if you are interested and even cooking some Indian dishes. Yes, I have cooked some really delicious festive dishes and surprised people!
I can learn photography as I'm always interested but never had the chance to. I can learn to cook your food, speak some words of your language, about your country and tips for solo travelling and backpacking. I'm a keen observer and like to inculcate all good things from you. All have something special and I invariably pick it up even if you don't teach me, to make myself a better individual.
What I Can Share with Hosts
All I expect from my host is the kindness of sharing a space for me to rest and nothing luxury. I wouldn't mind if the host wants to join me on my sight-seeing tours and other activities.
Countries I’ve Visited
China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates
