About Me
CURRENT MISSION
At the very least...Cook a new meal and try a new beer on a weekly basis :-)
ABOUT ME
I've been both a full-time teacher and part-time waitress for 10 years and I have a definite teacher persona...patient, creative, thoughtful, inquisitive, dedicated and adventurous. I love exploring and learning about other cultures, religions and languages.
I'm an exercise aficionada and adore days off in the sun. I work two jobs, so I'm pretty busy, but I'm committed to travelling on my summers off, which gives me something to work toward and look forward to :-)
I love meeting new people and enjoy sharing my lovely home with travellers.
PHILOSOPHY
Life is short. I strive to make other's lives a little easier and more delightful...to speak my truth...to struggle for progress...take things with a grain of salt...assume positive intent...laugh as often as possible, and see every place I dream of seeing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have had wonderful experiences hosting and being hosted and I'm always ready to make new memories!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I met some sweet Australian couchsurfers at the restaurant I work at and they had wonderful things to say about their experiences. It wasn't hard to convince me that I should try it and I'm so glad I did!
Interests
Tasting flemish ales, stouts, and porters, brewing kombucha, wine sampling, tearing up the dance floor, cooking delicious meals, walking/hiking/biking in new places, shooting pool, coaching, finishing a WOD that appeared impossible, fixing things myself, gardening, sprinting at the end of a run, finding the switch to a student's lightbulb, getting better at something, watching filth convert to shine and challenging preconceptions.

Music, Movies, and Books
My music library is a compilation of my life experiences: Raver days dancing to house and techno until the sun came up... basement clubs in the Canary Islands dancing to reggae, reggaeton, and dubstep...late study sessions with classical geniuses...cleaning the house and picnicking with folk and bluegrass...beat box circles, freestyling, and shows with underground hip-hop, beach days with indie rockers and singer/songwriters, singing and dancing with my students to latin rock, salsa and mariachi...and the list goes on. I like it all...literally!
I read a lot of educational and race theory, but some of my other favorites include Como agua para chocolate, En la casa de los espiritus, The Overworked American, A People's History of the United States, and Fun Home.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I travelled to SE Asia last summer and went diving off Koh Tao. It was equally terrifying and thrilling. Definitely conquered one of my greatest fears that day.
I was awestruck riding a horse through the Monte Verde cloud forest in Costa Rica. I spotted a Quetzal in the canopy and gawked at one particular sloth for a good hour.
