In Cologne, the possibilities are endless; visitors can snap photos of incredible historical architecture and drink a Kölsch with fun-loving locals in crowded beer halls here in one of Germany’s liveliest cities. Its skyline is dominated by Cologne Cathedral, a massive Gothic cathedral and Germany’s most visited attraction. There are many medieval structures in Cologne, including Kölner Rathaus and the three remaining city gates that look like something from a book of fairy tales. Cologne is home to some top-notch museums as well, like the modern art museum called Museum Ludwig and the Romano-Germanic Museum, giving visitors a glimpse into Germany’s history as part of the vast Ancient Roman empire.
Perhaps the best time to visit Cologne is in early spring, when the city hosts its annual Carnival, a huge street festival which draws over a million visitors every year. Before you leave this magical city, make your way to the Hohenzollern Bridge for a perfect view of Cologne on both sides of the Rhine. It’s a great way to say “Auf Wiedersehen.”
