About Me

Hey everybody!

My name is Alejandro Muñoz-McKearney and I'm a long time Miami resident though originally from New York City. I have international roots with my Dad being Ecuadorian and my mom being Irish-American. I've had the opportunity to live in a few different places outside of Miami including Buenos Aires, Argentina, Washington DC (one semester in college), and Angers, France (one Summer in college).

I am graduating with my bachelor's in Public Administration from Florida International University in May 2020. I am open to pursuing my Master's but would like to gain a little more clarity in what field that would be so intent on working and pursuing some independent projects for the next year or two. I've never been that great in structured learning settings as I like to explore things at my own pace and by experiencing them.I'm currently really into learning about urban planning, data analytics, philosophy, and art so open to any book/movie recommendations. Most of my friends would describe me as an old man and I agree for the most part except that I'm a cool old man that likes all types of music, trying new sports, and open to new ideas that challenge my thoughts on the world.

As far as sports go, I'm currently doing dragon boating (similar to rowing), fencing, and mountain biking. For 2020, the main goal of mine is to connect more with watersports and nature in Miami, given that there are a lot of things that you can try.

Probably what I enjoy most is connecting friends and making the most of the present moment. I'd like to live in a world where people are kinder and more supportive of each other, despite cultural, religious, or age differences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling, meeting new people and sharing great experiences. I don't currently have my own place in Miami so I can't have anyone at the moment but am happy to provide tips for doing Miami right.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music taste is unusually varied, I can go from Frank Sinatra to the newest EDM tracks, early 2000s rap, or 80s hits.

Favorite series is probably Rush Hour but the movies that always move me when I watch them is Punch Drunk Love, Gladiator, Magnolia, and The Place Beyond the Pines.

Books wise, I really like most stuff by Malcom Gladwell and Thomas Pinker. If I'm feeling rebellious I'll pick up a Christopher Hitchens book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was an extra in the first episode of the last season of House of Cards when I was living in Washington DC.
