Founded in the 1700s as a Spanish colony, San Jose is now the largest city in Northern California. While San Jose is home to many of the world’s most well-known technology companies, it certainly hasn’t forgotten its roots. Start out at Santana Row, San Jose’s popular shopping district, to grab an outdoor table at one of the cafés and enjoy a great meal while people-watching. Walk off those calories in Kelley Park, a beautiful downtown park featuring plenty of walking trails and a Japanese Friendship Garden for a chance to unwind for a bit.
San Jose is home to some attractions that just can’t be found anywhere else. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum features an impressive collection of authentic Egyptian artifacts, including four actual mummies. Even stranger is the famous Winchester Mystery House, a massive Victorian estate with staircases that lead to nowhere, confusing hallways, and doors that open to solid walls. This baffling home was designed to cause confusion among spirits and ghosts, but it seems just as effective on the many visitors who roam the halls every day.
